Mary’s contribution to history is the events that occurred between Mary and her cousin, Elizabeth. These events that were fueled by the competition to gain the throne of England. Elizabeth placed Mary on trial for plotting to kill her and take her throne. Mary had become a liability and a threat that Elizabeth could no longer ignore. The trials and imprisonment in England brought Mary to her execution. She was executed on February 8, 1587. Her execution created ripples throughout Europe. Many Catholics considered her a martyr.  Her contribution, therefore, is that she manifested the violence and the cold reality that the royalty shared to each other in a time where there were multiple heirs to one throne.
